BIM Planning Course

Fall 2019

‍We ‍are ‍offering ‍a ‍new ‍online ‍BIM ‍Planning ‍course ‍from ‍the ‍Penn ‍State ‍World ‍Campus ‍starting ‍on ‍August ‍26, ‍2019 ‍and ‍ending ‍December ‍20, ‍2019.  This ‍is ‍a ‍3 ‍credit, ‍15 ‍week ‍online ‍graduate ‍level ‍Architectural ‍Engineering ‍course.


‍Thegoal ‍for ‍this ‍course ‍is ‍for ‍students ‍to ‍learn ‍how ‍todesign ‍the ‍implementation ‍of ‍Building ‍Information ‍Modeling ‍(BIM) ‍on ‍Architecture ‍/ ‍Engineering ‍/ ‍Construction ‍(AEC) ‍projects ‍and ‍within ‍AEC ‍organizations.  Students ‍will ‍learn ‍how ‍to ‍perform ‍a ‍structured ‍BIM ‍Execution ‍Planning ‍Procedure ‍developed ‍through ‍research ‍efforts ‍at ‍Penn ‍State.  Specifically, ‍students ‍will ‍learn ‍how ‍to ‍select ‍appropriate ‍uses ‍for ‍BIM ‍on ‍a ‍project; ‍develop ‍detailed ‍process ‍maps ‍to ‍show ‍the ‍task ‍and ‍information ‍workflows; ‍create ‍information ‍exchange ‍requirements ‍for ‍the ‍various ‍deliverables; ‍and ‍plan ‍the ‍project ‍infrastructure ‍needed ‍to ‍support ‍BIM ‍implementation ‍on ‍a ‍project.  In ‍addition, ‍students ‍will ‍learn ‍how ‍to ‍develop ‍BIM ‍procedures ‍within ‍an ‍organization ‍as ‍well ‍as ‍gaining ‍an ‍understanding ‍of ‍the ‍ongoing ‍initiatives ‍to ‍create ‍the ‍National ‍BIM ‍Standard ‍and ‍other ‍BIM ‍initiatives ‍in ‍leading ‍countries ‍throughout ‍the ‍world.  Students ‍will ‍also ‍explore ‍leading ‍research ‍into ‍the ‍field ‍of ‍Building ‍Information ‍Modeling ‍and ‍the ‍digitization ‍of ‍the ‍AEC ‍Industry.


‍This ‍course ‍will ‍combine ‍video ‍recorded ‍presentations, ‍readings, ‍and ‍student ‍activities ‍and ‍projects.  The ‍course ‍is ‍organized ‍on ‍a ‍weekly ‍cycle, ‍with ‍some ‍projects ‍spanning ‍multiple ‍weeks.   You ‍can ‍download ‍a ‍sample ‍syllabus ‍with ‍more ‍details ‍at ‍this ‍link.


‍Registration ‍for ‍the ‍course ‍is ‍now ‍open.  To ‍join ‍the ‍course, ‍you ‍will ‍register ‍as ‍a ‍Penn ‍State ‍non-degree ‍graduate ‍student, ‍and ‍then ‍enroll ‍in ‍the ‍course ‍section.  Please ‍note ‍that ‍you ‍will ‍need ‍to ‍have ‍a ‍Bachelors ‍degree ‍in ‍engineering, ‍architecture, ‍or ‍a ‍related ‍field ‍to ‍be ‍able ‍to ‍join ‍the ‍class.  No ‍test ‍scores ‍(other ‍than ‍TOEFL ‍and ‍IELTS) ‍required ‍for ‍non-degree ‍admission.

‍International ‍non-degree ‍graduate ‍applicants ‍must ‍provide ‍TOEFL ‍or ‍IELTS ‍scores.There ‍are ‍detailed ‍instructions ‍on ‍the ‍registration ‍link ‍below.


‍The ‍course ‍cost ‍will ‍be ‍defined ‍by ‍enrollment ‍status ‍at ‍Penn ‍State.  The ‍current ‍non-degree ‍student ‍tuition ‍rate ‍for ‍this ‍course ‍is ‍$2,975 ‍plus ‍a ‍$30 ‍fee ‍to ‍apply ‍to ‍the ‍graduate ‍school.  The ‍rate ‍will ‍vary ‍for ‍current ‍Penn ‍State ‍graduate ‍students.
